Records broken by Chennai Express till date

Shah Rukh and Deepika starrer Chennai Express has been one of the most keenly awaited films of this year. The film released last Friday on a grand scale in India and overseas. As predicted by most trade gurus, the film broke most of the previously held records by other biggies as of now. In this feature, we take a look at some of the records that the film has broken in India as well as overseas in its 3 day run and Thursday night previews.

In India, Chennai Express collected Rs 6.75 cr in paid previews, overtaking the record held by 3 Idiots, which had collected Rs 2.7 cr. On the other hand, in UK, it collected £ 142,220 in Thursday night previews, setting a new record yet again. It crossed the preview figures of My Name Is Khan, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, 3 Idiots and Ek Tha Tiger.

Coming to the Opening Day, Chennai Express collected Rs. 33.12 cr in India. With this, the film broke the previous held highest record by Ek Tha Tiger, which had opened at Rs. 32.93 cr. Obviously, the film broke Shah Rukh's own earlier highest record, held by Ra.One at Rs.18.5 crores. As of now, Chennai Express holds the record of Highest Day 1 collections ever by a Bollywood movie.

Chennai Express collected Rs. 28.15 cr on the second day. It, therefore also has the Highest Day 2 collections ever for a Bollywood movie in India.

If we look at the biggest openers of 2013, again Chennai Express shoots way higher than any other release of 2013 with the Opening Day collection of Rs. 33.12 cr followed by Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which opened with Rs. 19.45 cr.

On the other hand, the SRK starrer is on a record-smashing spree in UK as well. The film collected £ 258,598 on Friday, making it the highest opening day for a Hindi movie in UK.

The film, also has to its credit of scoring the fastest Rs. 100 crore at the Box Office (in 4 days), thus beating Salman's Ek Tha Tiger's record of Rs. 100 crore in 5 days.

It has recorded the third day highest collections in Bollywood (Rs 32.50 cr)

The film has broken the record of becoming the highest opening weekend grosser ever (Rs. 100.42 crores).

With an opening weekend collection of Rs. 100.42 crores, Chennai Express holds the record for the highest opening weekend figures of 2013, closely followed by Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with Rs. 62.11 crore and Race 2 with Rs. 51.35 crore.

Another record that Chennai Express has managed to successfully break is that of becoming the fastest film to reach the 200 crore mark. In fact the film achieved the same in just 15 days beating Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots which took 70 days to achieve 200 cr.

Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots (till recently) held the record of being the highest grossing film of all time with collections of Rs. 202.47 crores. However SRK's Chennai Express has overtaken the Perfectionist Khan's film with Chennai Express collecting Rs. 202.67 crores.
