Though PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA got sidelined at the box-office due to the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN wave, the film is gradually stabilizing itself on weekdays. The general trend is that the business of films shows a big slump on weekdays, if the weekend business hasn't been strong, but PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA was rock-steady on Monday and Tuesday. In fact, at some centres, the film grossed better numbers than Friday.
The India theatrical breakup is as follows:-
Fri: 92 lacs
Sat 1.10 cr
Sun 1.23 cr
Mon 61 lacs
Tues 60 lacs [early estimates]
Total so far: Rs 4.46 cr nett
Meanwhile, the low cost film is expected to be a safe proposition for Viacom18. The cost, inclusive of P&A, is approx Rs 9.9 cr [cost to Viacom18 Rs 4.8 cr + P&A Rs 5.1 cr]. Viacom18 has recovered Rs 4 cr from Satellite, Rs 60 lacs from Music + Home Video and Rs 23 lacs from International Video. Also, the non-theatrical avenues [Air Borne, Digital, parts of Overseas] have fetched approx Rs 60 lacs.
The balance amount is expected to be recovered from India theatrical rights. Given the absence of a biggie till 3 June, PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA should enjoy a decent run and also recover the costs in the first round of exploitation.
