The Aamir Khan film Laal Singh Chaddha is showing a jump in collections on Saturday. According to early estimates, the movie has collected in the range of Rs. 9.20 to 10 crores, taking the three-day opening weekend total to Rs. 28.75 crores. The collections are extremely low, but this growth is just one of those rare bright things in the dark journey of Laal Singh Chaddha.
There was a possibility for Laal Singh Chaddha to stay flat on Saturday as the general perception is negative, but it managed to fight a little and grow on the third day. This was also expected since Laal Singh Chaddha is a multiplex film, which often tends to grow on Saturday. The overall collections are however disastrous and the film will end up being one of the biggest flops of Aamir Khan's career recording monumental losses.
There was a growth of 40 percent in the multiplexes across the country, but the mass belts have dipped a little, resulting in a consolidated jump of around 28 to 30%. Laal Singh Chaddha might see another nominal jump in collections on Sunday followed by a double-digit Monday too, but then it's going to be a downward swing from Tuesday. The Sunday and Monday collections should take the extended weekend total of Laal Singh Chaddha around Rs. 50 crore.
The lifetime total of Laal Singh Chaddha will be around Rs. 80 crores, which is nothing but a disastrous result for a superstar of Aamir Khan's stature. On the collections front, Laal Singh Chaddha is leading by about Rs. 8 crores against its competitor, Raksha Bandhan, and it remains to be seen if it can maintain the lead in the long run or not.
