Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi is a box office hit, and is now the second after Akshay Kumar – Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi to achieve this feat in the last couple of years. It is just apt as well since it was exactly two years back when Baaghi 3 released and was the last grosser before pandemic showed its ugly face in the course of its first week itself. Now that things have come back to normal, Gangubai Kathiawadi has restarted the campaign for Bollywood as far as the steady inflow of releases is concerned.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada produced film is now bringing audiences in the way that it used to be back in time and happy days are indeed back again. This was reflected in the kind of hold that the film demonstrated on second Friday when Rs. 5.01 crores came in. Compare this with Thursday collections of Rs. 5.40 crores and you know that the film is indeed a very good success.
S o far, the period drama has collected Rs. 73.94 crores and now a lot more is set to come in days to follow. Initially it was still about those audiences who were waiting for their regular dose of Bollywood films in theatres. Now that the word of mouth has started spreading amongst neutral audiences, sky is the limit for the film. This Friday's release Jhund is not a competition for Hindi audiences, which means the second weekend would entirely belong to Alia Bhatt. From there, it would all about the kind of profits that the film makes.
