Anil Sharma started his directorial journey with the family drama Shradhanjali in 1981. The film starred Rakhee Gulzar, Suresh Oberoi, Deepak Parashar, Arun Govil and Sulochana Latkar. The filmmaker had a major turn in his career in 2001 with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Amrish Puri and Utkarsh Sharma, the film became a historic blockbuster, despite being released alongside the highly acclaimed Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India.
Sharma has now had another huge success, which, interestingly, turns out to be the sequel to the 2001 movie. Gadar 2 took the box office by storm when it released last month on August 11 and has not had a slump ever since. This has ensured that the movie has entered the rare Rs. 500 Crores Club. In other words, both the films in the Gadar franchise have achieved history at the box office.
On top of that, Gadar 2 has entered the Rs 500 Crores Club in just 24 days, which makes it the 2nd fastest film to reach that score. The fastest has been the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan, which released earlier this year and took just 22 days to reach that score. But Gadar 2 has overtaken the Hindi version of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which had taken 34 days to reach the Rs. 500 Crores Club.
