Ek Villain Returns is heading for a lifetime of Rs. 40 crores+, what with the first week closing around Rs. 32.92 crores. It would have been better had over Rs. 35 crores come in the first week because then there was a chance for the film to go over the Rs. 50 crores mark too, considering it’s an open week ahead. However there was a dip evidences during the weekdays and that has restricted its run.
That said, the film has still emerged as a fair grosser since most of the other releases with a similar scale, size and star cast have been wrapping up in Rs. 15-18 crores range, which is almost half of what the film has managed in the first week. Early release on OTT has turned out to be a double-edged sword because what had emerged as Bollywood’s saviour during 2020 and 2021 is now a bane in 2022 so far when theatres are open since audiences are reluctant to step in unless it’s an event release. In that aspect, a ‘regular’ film like Ek Villain Returns has still seen decent footfalls and is amongst the Top-10 of the year so far.
For John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria, director Mohit Suri has delivered a fair grosser and rest assured, the film will do even better on the OTT circuits when it arrives there since beyond the opening weekend, there is a larger segment of audience which is waiting to catch the suspense thriller on the small screen.
