Tubelight had a below average Week One as it gathered Rs. 106.86 crore at the Box Office. Though quite a few hits end up collecting this as their final lifetime number, the fact remains that expectations from a Salman Khan starrers are huge. Moreover, the film was an Eid release that gave it an additional holiday advantage too. This isn’t all as the film was made at a huge budget too and then released at more than 4000 screens which gave it a daily earning capacity of around Rs. 40 crore.
However, while the film ran to around 50% capacity over the weekend (barring Monday when the footfalls went up due to Eid), the numbers came down on the weekdays (especially on Wednesday and Thursday) which was pretty much expected. That said, Raees had collected Rs. 109.01 crore in its first seven days and Tubelight has done less than that despite being a solo release and arrival at almost double the screen count.
The challenge begins for the film now as it would now fold up well under the Rs. 150 crore mark. In terms of the visibility it is still up there since there is no other major film in the running. Still, it is now under a real threat to have lesser lifetime collections than even Raees which brought in Rs. 137.51 crore eventually.
A theatrical flop.
