Yesterday on Independence Day we saw the release of two films that feature highly patriotic themes. While the first was the Akshay Kumar starrer Gold that released across 4000 screens and told the story of India’s first ever gold medal win, the other was the John Abraham actioner Satyameva Jayate that hit a total of 3500 screens and dealt with the topic of corruption. In this box office analysis we take a look at the collections of both the films on August 15 while comparing the same to previous releases that feature on the list of highest Independence Day grossers.
Collecting Rs. 25.25 cr Gold has managed to become the third highest grosser on August 15, while Satyameva Jayate that drew in Rs. 20.52 cr has managed to become the 5th highest. Not surprisingly leading the chart is the Salman Khan film Ek Tha Tiger that release in August 15, 2012. Apart from this the other film that Gold does not manage to surpass is the Ajay Devgn starrer Singham Returns that had collected Rs. 32.09 cr on its release back in 2014.
Following Gold on the list of highest Independence Day grosser are other releases like Brothers that collected Rs. 21.43 cr, Satyameva Jayate that collected Rs. 20.52 cr, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha that collected Rs. 20 cr, Chennai Express that collected Rs. 19.6 cr, Rustom that collected 17.81 cr, Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara that collected Rs. 11.25 cr, and Mohenjo Daro that collected Rs. 10.27 cr.
