The Reema Kagti directed film Gold released yesterday alongside the John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate. Released across 4000 screens in the domestic market Gold that stars Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy is based on the story of India’s first very Olympic gold medal. Despite the competition from the other release, Gold that received positive reviews and good audience feedback has taken off on a good note.
In this box office analysis we take a look at the opening day collections of Gold while comparing the same to previous releases of 2018. Collecting Rs. 25.25 cr, Gold has managed to fare much better than Satyameva Jayate to emerge as the third highest opening day grosser of 2018. Though the collections of Gold do not surpass the business of previous releases like Sanju that collected Rs. 34.75 cr, Race 3 that collected Rs. 28.50 cr, the film has managed to fare better than certain others like Baaghi 2 that collected Rs. 25.10 cr, Padmaavat that had collected Rs. 24 cr, Satyameva Jayate that collected Rs. 20.52 cr, Veere Di Wedding that collected Rs. 10.70 cr, Pad Man that collected Rs. 10.26 cr, and Raid that collected Rs. 10.04 cr.
As of now, with Gold emerging as the leader at the box office this week, all that remains to be seen is whether the film which has captivated the multiplex going audience emerges as one of the highest opening weekend grosser of 2018.
