On Friday, we saw the release of two big ticket Bollywood films, viz. Rustom and Mohenjo Daro. While the first featured Akshay Kumar in the lead role the latter featured Hrithik Roshan. To analyze whether either of the films had a dire effect on the overall box office collections of the other, we decided to take a closer look.
In this box office report, we take a look at the day wise territory breakup of Rustom and Mohenjo Daro while comparing them at the same time. As per the territory wise breakup, Mohenjo Daro that featured a tepid start on Friday has managed to surpass the collections of Rustom in only 2 territories, Nizam Andhra and Tamil Nadu & Kerala. On the other hand, Rustom that took the lead on day one itself has managed to establish a clear lead in rest of the territories.
When talking of the combined business of both Rustom and Mohenjo Daro, the day one all India collections of both films combined stands at Rs. 22.98 cr. Herein lies an interesting point, given the number of theatres and screens both the films have released across, the overall business on day one for Rustomand Mohenjo Daro combined could easily have touched Rs. 45-50 cr.
However, since the combined collections currently stands at Rs. 22.98 cr which is hardly close to 50% of their potential, it can be easily concluded that the impact of the so called clash was not that alarming. In fact contrary to belief that each film would eat into the overall market share of the other, both the movies, Rustom and Mohenjo Daro in reality did not affect each other's box office collection.
