The Rajkumar Hirani directed film Sanju released last week on Friday. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, the film which is a biopic of actor Sanjay Dutt witnessed a massive release across 4000 screens in India. Being one of the most talked about and keenly awaited releases of 2018, the film opened to a thunderous response from the audience with Rs. 34.75 cr coming in on Day 1. Following this up the business of the film on Day 2 saw further growth with another Rs. 38.60 cr coming in. Now on its third day, the business of Sanju skyrocketed propelling the film past the Rs. 100 cr mark.
In this box office report, we take a look at the opening weekend collections of Sanju while comparing the same to Ranbir Kapoor’s previous releases. Not surprisingly, collecting Rs. 120.06 cr Sanju has surpassed all of Ranbir’s previous releases to emerge as his Highest Opening weekend grosser. In fact, the opening weekend collections of Sanju have far surpassed the business of Ranbir Kapoor’s previous releases like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani that collected Rs. 62.11 cr, Besharam that collected Rs. 47.69 cr, Tamasha that collected Rs. 38.23 cr, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that collected Rs. 35.6 cr, Barfi that collected Rs. 34.60 cr, Rajneeti that collected Rs. 33.63 cr, Rockstar that collected Rs. 33.60 cr, Jagga Jasoos that collected Rs. 33.17 cr, and Roy that had collected Rs. 28.68 cr.
As of now, with no competition from any other release, Sanju that still holds the audiences’ interest is expected to continue its run at the box office unopposed. Though the Monday (Day 4) collections of the film are likely to see a dip, expectations are that Sanju will still managed to rake in Rs. 15-20 cr.
