Yesterday we saw the clash of two big ticket Bollywood films at the box office with Rustom and Mohenjo Daro hitting screens. While the first which features Akshay Kumar, Ileana D'Cruz and Esha Gupta is based on the real life Nanavati murder case, the latter is a fictional tale from the Bronze Age featuring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde. Though both films had equal opportunity at the box office, it is the Akshay Kumar starrer Rustom that took the lead collecting Rs. 14.11 cr on opening day, while the Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro collected Rs. 8.87 cr.
In this box office report we compare the opening day collections of both films to previous releases in 2016. Not surprisingly, Rustom comes in as the fourth highest opening day grosser of 2016 behind films like Sultan that collected Rs. 36.54 cr, Fan that collected Rs. 19.2 cr and Housefull 3 that collected Rs. 15.21 cr. However, Mohenjo Daro ranks ninth on the list preceded by other releases like Airlift that collected Rs. 12.35 cr, Baaghi that collected Rs. 11.94 cr, Dishoom that collected Rs. 11.05 cr and Udta Punjabthat collected Rs. 10.05 cr.
