Tom Cruise has always enjoyed a great fan following in India since the 1990s, thanks largely to his Mission Impossible movies. After the previous six films in the franchise attained success in the country, there were high hopes from its seventh instalment in the form of Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One.
The film has lived up to the expectations not just in terms of content but also box office performance as it has become just the second Hollywood movie in 2023 to enter the Rs 100 Crores Club in India. It has also entered the all-time Top 10 Hollywood grossers in India. It’s currently at the 10th position in the list with Rs. 106.65 crores. The list is led by Avatar: The Way Of Water (2022) and Avengers: Endgame (2019) with mammoth numbers of Rs 378.22 crores and Rs 373.22 crores respectively.
The only other Hollywood movie to reach the Rs 100 Crores Club in India in 2023 is Fast X. The Vin Diesel movie finished its box office run in the country at Rs 108.83 crores.
Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One released the world over and in India on July 12. After opening at an impressive number of Rs. 12.27 crores, the film finished at Rs 65.86 crores after its first extended weekend (it had released on a Wednesday). Its performance till this period made it clear that it was all set to become a success in India.
Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One is still playing in quite a few theatres in the country despite the release of two other known Hollywood movies Oppenheimer and Barbie and the Bollywood biggie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Hence, its box office run in India is not over yet.
Interestingly, the biggest Bollywood movie this year has been Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which fell in the action genre. As his next movie Jawan and the Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 are expected to burst fireworks at the box office, it makes us wonder if 2023 is the year of action films.
