Madaari is currently hanging on to find some patronage coming its way. The film has managed to find some of its target audience stepping in theaters, though it still hasn’t reached an optimal mark. Considering the kind of credibility that Irrfan has built as an actor and the reliability that comes with the name Jimmy Sheirgill, the film could have done better in terms of the footfalls that have been ultimately registered. However, after an initial [Rs. 2 crore] which at least gave it a platform to build on, the Nishikant Kamat directed film went on to stay just about fine for the rest of the weekend.
As a result, the film currently stands at Rs. 9.75 crore. Now these could well be the sort of numbers that a film can capitalize on. However, for that the word of mouth has to be all around positive so that audiences can continue to trickle in. As a matter of fact, Madaari has found a good ground for itself since there is no competition from other films either, what with Kabali [Hindi] and Sultan catering an altogether different audience base. Moreover, while Kabali hasn’t really sky rocketed, even Sultan is coming to the close of its run.
Still, the weekend collections of Madaari have stayed below Te3n [Rs. 11.13 crore] which by itself wasn’t anything great. The Amitabh Bachchan starrer too belonged to the same emotional-dramatic-thriller genre where a man was set out to avenge the killing of the child in his family. Yes, Te3n was more expensive and the word of mouth of Madaari is better as well. However, considering the fact that Dishoom arrives next, it is currently a wait and watch situation for Madaari at the Box Office and the eventual verdict would be known towards the end of the week.
