Just a couple of days back on Friday we saw the release of the much talked about and highly anticipated Salman Khan film Tubelight. However, unlike most previous Salman Khan films that have hit screens around Eid the business of Tubelight has been rather tepid. In fact, the film which received mixed reviews from the critics has managed to rake in Rs. 64.77 cr at the domestic box office.
Similarly, in the overseas markets as well, Tubelight has not seen collections skyrocket as expected; instead the business of the film though steady has been sluggish. While looking at the market of U.S.A too the Kabir Khan directorial has been a slow earner. In fact, the Telugu film DJ – Duvvada Jagannadham, which is said to be an action romance entertainer written and directed by Harish Shanka has once again managed to fare better than Tubelight.
After surpassing the collections of Tubelight on its opening day, DJ – Duvvada Jagannadham, on the opening weekend at the U.S.A box office has managed to draw in USD 873,249 [Rs. 5.62 cr] from 190 screens with an average of USD 5,325 per screen. On the other hand Tubelight that released across a larger number of screens, viz. 342 has managed to collect USD 757,472 [Rs. 4.88 cr] from with an average of USD 2,475 per screen.
By the looks of the current trend, Tubelight is certainly facing a tough time at the box office with competition coming in for the least expected source, DJ – Duvvada Jagannadham.
