This isn’t surprising now. After the fantastic jump that Dishoom enjoyed on Sunday, it was pretty much apparent that the film was finally coming on its own. It may not have taken a great opening on Friday but stable collections on Saturday were a sigh of relief for all involved. After a crucial Sunday, which went quite well, it all boiled down to how weekdays would behave. That was going to be the deciding factor between whether this Sajid Nadiadwala and Eros film would just go beyond covering costs or make good profits as well. As is the case now, the makers can begin to celebrate as the film is on the right path.
With Rs. 4.85 crore coming on Monday and then Rs. 4.30 crore* being accumulated on Tuesday, the film now stands at a healthy sum of Rs. 46.5 crore*. The film is assured of collecting between Rs. 54-55 crore at the end of Week One and with the coming week being almost open as well, a lifetime total of over Rs. 70 crore is looking like a possibility. In fact in its first week itself, the John Abraham–Varun Dhawan–Jacqueline Fernandez film is set to go past the lifetime total of Ki & Ka [Rs. 52.31 crore] while Udta Punjab [Rs. 60.33 crore] would be crossed by Saturday.
There have been quite a few talks about the cost of the film being high. However, the fact remains that more than half of that has already been recovered via sales of ancillary rights and other deals struck during the production. That ensured that covering costs was never going to be an issue and it was only a matter of how much bigger would this Rohit Dhawan directed film eventually go. Yes, there were some who did believe that the film could well enter the Rs. 100 crore club. Still, considering the kind of genre that Dishoom belongs to as well as absence of any romantic track whatsoever meant that was an uphill task anyway.
