Befikre has failed to touch the Rs. 50 crore mark after Week One. The start of the film was more than decent with Rs. 34.36 crore coming in over the weekend. However, it has been a free fall ever since then as a result of which the collections stand at just Rs. 48.75 crore. This is clearly an under-performance from a film that came with much better expectations.
The film hasn’t even entered the Top-10 Week One of 2016 as the films at No. 10 and 11 are Dishoom [Rs. 53.34 crore] and Mohenjo Daro [Rs. 51.18 crore] respectively. In fact Befikre [Rs. 48.75 crore] is pretty much neck to neck with Udta Punjab [Rs. 48.5 crore] which pretty much tells the tale.
As a matter of fact what now has to be seen is whether Befikre would be able to step into at least Top-15 when it comes to the lifetime collections of films that have released in 2016 so far. Currently, at Number 15 is Udta Punjab at Rs. 60 crore and at Number 16 is Mohenjo Daro at Rs. 58.5 crore. These are the two numbers that Befikre would need to cross in order to sit at Number 15. However, that would be momentary too as Dangal releases on the coming Friday and that would push down Befikre (and almost every other film in the Top-15 so far) by a spot each.
For an Aditya Chopra film to not even enter Top-15 of the year is one fate that no one would have ever imagined when the film was announced. Hopefully, this is an aberration and the filmmaker would strike back in a big way with his next release which has a much more universal appeal with his trademark touch attached to it as well.
