Box Office: Ae Dil Hai Mushkil takes a good start, is Karan Johar’s Best Opener till date

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has taken a good start at the Box Office. The film was expected to open with at least a double digit score and there were bets being placed that the first day collections of around 12 crore would be a possibility. The numbers pretty much exceeded expectations though as Rs. 13.30 crore came in on Friday. Now these are good numbers indeed considering the clash, the screen count, the pre-Diwali season and the fact that it had to battle quite a few controversies on way to release.

As is the saying, any publicity is good publicity, but to still manoeuvre a situation of complete abyss when at one point of time it seemed that the film won't release without any trouble, and then to actually make it all go on its favour is something. In that aspect, Karan Johar and Fox fought it all out pretty well and eventually came up trumps.

As a result, the film is now Karan Johar's Biggest Opener till date as it has comfortably gone past Student of the Year (Rs. 9.25 crore) and My Name Is Khan (Rs. 8.25 crore). For Fox too, this is yet another good beginning for a film of theirs after M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story (Rs. 21.3 crore).

Ranbir Kapoor too would be heaving a sigh of relief as the film has enjoyed his best opening day in last three years since 2013 release Besharam [Rs. 21.56 crore]. On the other hand Anushka Sharma could well be grinning from ear to ear as her good run in 2016 is continuing with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starting on a positive note as well after Sultan. This may not really be an Aishwarya Rai Bachchan movie per se but still, at least she has been seen by a good chunk of audience after the start that she had taken with Jazbaa [Rs. 4.24 crore] and Sarbjit [Rs. 3.69 crore]. For those dying for her looks on the big screen, this is the film for them!

Even if the collections hold stable today, it would be a win of sorts for the film since festivities have only gained momentum over the weekend. With tomorrow being Diwali, there are chances that evening shows may get impacted again.
