Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has collected Rs. 13.30 crore on Friday while Shivaay too has taken a double digit opening at Rs. 10.24 crore. While the clash has resulted in the collections getting divided, theatre owners won't be complaining though as it is exactly a month after M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story [Rs. 21.3 crore] that a film has audience footfalls have been evidenced.
What makes it all the more important is the fact that despite this being a pre-Diwali Friday, the audiences haven't completely stayed away. This reflects from the fact that the combined collections of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay stand at Rs. 23.54 crore, which are now the second best of the year after Sultan [Rs. 35.54 crore].
Both Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay have entered the Top-10 openers list of 2016 though:
Sultan – Rs. 36.54 crore
M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story – Rs. 21.3 crore
Fan – Rs. 19.2 crore
Housefull 3 – Rs. 15.2 crore
Rustom – Rs. 14.11 crore
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – Rs. 13.3 crore
Airlift – Rs. 12.35 crore
Baaghi – Rs. 11.94 crore
Dishoom – Rs. 11.05 crore
Shivaay – Rs. 10.24 crore
M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story is ending its run around the Rs. 134 crore mark and for the sake of the industry, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay need to have much better numbers between them to go past this total. The least that Bollywood would be expecting is Rs. 200 crore between the Karan Johar and Ajay Devgn films. As of now, this seems possible and once that happens, this Diwali would be something to cheer about after all.
