Rajkummar Rao's Roohi was the first film to release post easing out of the first wave of pandemic and now his Badhaai Do has repeated the feat after the third wave. While Roohi had managed a lifetime of Rs. 26 crores, Badhaai Do will be in Rs. 22-24 crores but may have just a touch and go for a higher number. Ideally, the film should have been done better since the situation is under control as well, and audience sentiment to visit theatres is much more positive too, as seen in the Rs. 100 Crore Club success of Pushpa [Hindi].
Of course, night shows not being allowed to operate has been a spanner in the plan for the film. In fact, such kinds of things need to work in the favour of a film right at the time of release itself since that's the time when audiences are most excited to check out a new release. As the days progress, the curiosity levels start going down rapidly and the best of the change in plans (in this case at least some states relaxing restrictions during the course of the last one week) doesn't really help much.
The film is trying to make the most of what it can, and that was seen in Sunday collections of Rs. 2 crores. The LGBT theme film currently stands at 16.89 crores and should be around the Rs. 19 crores mark before the second week comes to a close and then Gangubai Kathiawadi arrives.
