‘HUM TUM’ CONTINUES TO RULE!

By Bollywood Hungama

Weekend: July 2-4, 2004.

The weekend collections of a majority of Hindi films being screened in U.K. and U.S. are far from rosy. While HUM TUM is holding on well in the two countries, the biggies have not made much of an impression.

Let's have a look at the weekend business of Hindi films…

U.K. BOX-OFFICE

  • The collections of DEEWAAR have registered a steep fall. While the film debuted at No. 14 position last weekend, the film has slipped to No. 21 in its second weekend. It has collected £ 14,352 on 16 screens, taking its total to £ 69,071 [approx. Rs 58.56 lacs]. Its per screen average has been a mere £ 897. Sad, but true!

  • Meanwhile, the collections of LAKSHYA continue to fall [last weekend: No. 10, this weekend: No. 16]. In its third weekend, the film has collected £ 23,028 on 28 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 822. The total so far is £ 255,028 [approx. Rs. 2.16 crores].

  • However, HUM TUM is rock-steady [last weekend: No. 17, this weekend: No. 17 - wow!]. In its sixth weekend, the Saif-Rani love story has collected £ 16,115 on 18 screens, with the average per print working out to £ 895. The total so far has been a remarkable £ 593,614 [approx. Rs. 5.03 crores].

  • The new release, SHIKAAR, has debuted at No. 25 position, collecting £ 9,140 on 10 screens [approx. Rs. 7.74 lacs], with the per screen average working out to £ 914.

  • The Punjabi smash-hit ASA NU MAAN WATNA DA is steady as well [last weekend: No. 30, this weekend: No. 37]. In its eighth weekend, the film has collected £ 2,381 on 2 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 1,191. The total so far has been £ 164,796 [approx. Rs. 1.39 crores].

  • DEV has been rejected outright [last weekend: No. 42, this weekend: No. 59]. In its fourth weekend, this Big B-Om Puri starrer has collected £ 321 on 2 screens, with the per screen average being £ 161. Its total is now £ 82,635 [approx. Rs. 70.04 lacs].

U.S.A. BOX-OFFICE

  • The collections of LAKSHYA continue to drop [last weekend: No. 26, this weekend: No. 42]. However, this Hrithik starrer has fared better in the U.S. than in U.K. In its third weekend, the film has collected $ 58,034 on 38 screens, with the per screen average being $ 1,527. The total so far has been $ 700,085 [approx. Rs. 3.21 crores].
