The box-office graph continues to rise and fall, hitting a high during the Diwali weekend [GOLMAAL 3], but taking a dip in the very next weekend [A FLAT, DUNNO Y... NA JAANE KYUN
and RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR]. Should one expect the revenues to soar upwards again this weekend, when two biggies invade the Indian screens – GUZAARISH and HARRY POTTER [which will
have a wide release, in four versions - English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu]?
These two films will vie for the top slot this weekend. GUZAARISH is a keenly anticipated film, while HARRY POTTER has its share of loyal fans in India. Also, HARRY POTTER has
had a great run at the Indian box-office in the past and is expected to give a tough fight to all Hindi films this weekend.
The buzz for GUZAARISH is low at the moment, but should grow as the release date draws nearer. Let me add that I don't foresee an earth-shattering opening for this film, like a
RAAJNEETI or a DABANGG or a GOLMAAL 3, despite starring A-list stars. The reason being, only mass-appealing films guarantee a terrific start at the ticket window, while films
that come across as those catering to the multiplexes, start well at metros mainly. Nonetheless, I strongly feel that GUZAARISH will gather momentum with each passing show.
Both GUZAARISH and HARRY POTTER will have to score in Week 1; else the heavy flow of films in the forthcoming weeks will make a dent in their business. In fact, it will be a tough fight in weeks to come, since every Friday is packed with interesting
films and only the best will survive in this battle of biggies. Let's hope for the best!
