A Gentleman Review {3.0/5} & Review Rating

A Gentleman (8)

When two really good looking actors like Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez come together in a popcorn entertainer that is set in Miami, the job is set for the composers [Sachin-Jigar] and the lyricists [Vayu, Priya Saraiya] to come up with something truly entertaining. This is what they do when they put together five songs that complete the album of A Gentleman.

It is the sonic sound of Benny Dayal that kick-starts the proceedings for 'Disco Disco' that has old fashioned disco fusing with slight Punjabi touch, hence ending up as a cocktail that is good enough to be sipped along. Written by Vayu, this song would be primarily remembered for the hook of 'disco' and also the fact that internet sensation Shirley Setia finally makes her debut in an out and out commercial song for a Jacqueline song no less. Does she do well? Definitely yes, hence justifying the persistence that she showed in aiming big in Bollywood.

Priya Saraiya steps into A Gentleman with 'Baat Ban Jaye' which is written and sung by her. Though the start of the song makes one wonder if this one is going to be an Arijit Singh style track, it is actually far away from that, what with Siddharth Basrur bringing a lot of fun element into play for 'Baat Ban Jaaye'. This one has a cool feel to it and makes you head for that beach holiday right away!

The song that turns out to be the best of the lot though is 'Chandralekha' and one ends up wondering why this one wasn't launched right at the start of the music promotion. Written by Vayu, this one has Vishal Dadlani bringing a lot of spunk into the proceedings with his spirited singing. He is superb in this youthful track that is bound to set the dance floor on fire. No wonder, Jonita Gandhi is in her elements too even though she makes a rather belated entry into the song.

As for those waiting for an Arijit Singh song in the soundtrack, there is 'Laagi Na Choote' that arrives rather belatedly but makes for an instant impression nonetheless. With the sound of piano in the background for most part of the song's duration, this one has Shreya Ghoshal giving company to Arijit behind the mike. A romantic number which is on the lines of many such songs that have seen lyricist Priya Saraiya and composer duo Sachin-Jigar collaborate in the past, 'Laagi Na Choote' may not be an instant winner but has in it to play on for many more weeks and months to come.

Last to arrive is 'Bandook Meri Laila' and this one turns out to be a killer, what with Vayu coming up with some rather unique lyrics. No wonder, everyone from Ash King and Jigar Saraiya to Raftaar have loads of fun singing 'Bandook Meri Laila' which takes a lot of variations before arriving at the hook which is simply addictive. There is more as Sidharth Malhotra makes his debut as a rapper too and does a rather good job with his husky voice that indeed stands out in the crowd. An all-male song, this one has in it to find some good recall value coming its way once the film plays on screen.

A Gentleman boasts of some good music and actually turns better as one moves from one song to the next. By the time this Sachin-Jigar soundtrack is through, you definitely want to play this in loop all over again. Go for it!
