Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has managed to enter the record books. The film has now enjoyed one of the best Week One that Bollywood has seen in 2016. In its first week, it has managed to score Rs. 80.19 crore and with that, it has found a place in Top-5 of the year so far:
Sultan – Rs. 229.16 crore (9 days)
M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story – Rs. 94.13 crore
Rustom – Rs. 90.9 crore
Airlift – Rs. 83.5 crore
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – Rs. 80.19 crore
Housefull 3 – Rs. 80.1 crore
Fan – Rs. 71.5 crore
Incidentally, barring Sultan and M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story which had a free run on their release, Rustom, Airlift and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil faced a clash with Mohenjo Daro, Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and Shivaay respectively. While Mohenjo Daro and Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 turned out to be no competition, Shivaay has been giving a good fight, which makes the collections of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil all the more notable.
If not for the clash, Karan Johar and Fox could well have managed a Week One of over 100 crore, which would have put the film right next to Sultan. Now that would have been a great feat indeed since the Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer is prominently a multiplex film.
Nonetheless, as things stand today, the film has managed to do well with its target audience and is already in profits. Considering the fact that the only competition in Week Two too remains as Shivaay, the film is now expected to go past the Rs. 100 crore mark in next 3-5 days, and from there on, anything that comes in should be bonus. The film is a Hit in the making and all associated with it would be happy to achieve this feat, especially after the troubles it had to go through for an entire month en route release.
