Sanjay Leela Bhansali sued by Film City

After the accolades and bouquets have been gathered, it's time for brickbats for the maker of Black, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The state-run Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation has slapped a 6 crore suit on Bhansali productions for causing damage to its studio at Film City during the shooting of Black.
The 15,000 sq ft. studio was hired by Bhansali productions in January 2004 for 45 days. While shooting a fire broke out on February 18, 2004, reducing the studio that ashes. The fire was duly reported to police, corporation and fire brigade.
A report submitted by Film City engineers and fire brigade officials state that the fire broke out because of negligence and hence the corporation wrote to Bhansali to pay for the damages which amount to Rs. 2 crore for the reconstruction of the set and Rs. 4 crore towards loss of rent from February 2004 to May 2005.
Since there has been no response from the production house the corporation has decided to file the civil suit in a day or two. The corporation has also decided not to rent the studio to Bhansali productions henceforth.
While not commenting on the issue, Bhansali's submissions to the corporation indicate that according to him the fire broke out owing to defective electric connections provided in the studio.
