‘Family’ - From 6th to 13th

Now it can be told! When producer Keshu decided to postpone the release date of FAMILY – TIES OF BLOOD from December 23 to January 2006, he was keen to make it in the first week of the new year [January 6]. But the Mumbai distributors of FAMILY [Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd.] were adamant: They didn’t want the film to release in the first week since the period [first week of new year] is considered jinxed in industry circles. In the past, a majority of films released in the first week of January had failed at the b.o., they reasoned.
Anyways, FAMILY was shifted to January 12, the second week. But the distributors again had a problem. Ashtavinayak are also the distributors of ZINDA [not just for Mumbai, but also for Delhi-U.P. territory], which is slated for release on the said date. Obviously, releasing two films on the same day can prove to be quite risky. However, after a series of meetings, the release date of FAMILY was finally locked for January 12 along with ZINDA.
Meanwhile, the three biggies in January [FAMILY, ZINDA, RANG DE BASANTI] have already blocked all major screens across the country. Where does that leave the medium-budget films that are slated for release in the first month of 2006? Your guess is as good as ours!
