Three comedies at a go! Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Taran Adarsh, September 13, 2005 - 09:30 IST

With comedies ruling the roost, almost every producer is planning to make a light entertainer these days. And why not! The film industry is constantly looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and with laughathons like KYAA KOOL HAI HUM, MAINE PYAAR KYUN KIYA and NO ENTRY storming the box-office, the dream merchants have finally realized that laughter is the best medicine for an ailing film industry.

But there have always been exceptions, film-makers who’ve always had faith in comic capers all the while. Enterprising producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala is one of them, besides David Dhawan of course.

Nadiadwala, who has produced HERA PHERI and AWARA PAAGAL DEEWANA and has two more comic capers lined up for release, DEEWANE HUE PAAGAL [due for release on November 25] and PHIR HERA PHERI [this sequel to HERA PHERI is releasing in mid-January 2006], is all set to start three more films, all light entertainers.

Anees Bazmee, whose recent film NO ENTRY is setting new box-office records, will direct the first film, which is titled KUCH TO HUA HAI. Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead, “this film will have a number of characters that are currently under finalization,” Firoz informs me. To roll in November this year, KUCH TO HUA HAI will be shot entirely in Dubai and another foreign destination. “It’ll have generous doses of comedy, romance and music,” the producer adds.

KYAA KOOL HAI HUM director Sangeeth Sivan has also been signed to direct a film by Nadiadwala. It’ll be a three-hero subject and will also roll before 2005-end.

Nadiadwala’s third project, titled MOHABBAT KAR LE RE, will be directed by ace choreographer Ahmed Khan and star Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty and Shahid Kapoor in principal roles. “This one’s an action-comedy,” the producers divulges, adding in the same breath that the project will take off in January next year.

Quiz Firoz the reason that prompted him to start three light entertainers and his reply also brings a smile on your face: “If you want people to take you seriously, make them laugh.” Well said!
