‘Chocolate’ press meet: Stars turn journos Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Taran Adarsh, September 6, 2005 - 04:21 IST

It was a press conference with a difference! To mark the completion of CHOCOLATE, producer Ragini of Spice Team organized a media get-together on Monday, September 5 at Classique Club, Andheri. Instead of the mediapersons throwing questions at the stars, it was the other way round here.

Anil Kapoor started the proceedings with “Let me choose the journalist… [then pointing towards this writer] Why don’t you fire the first question?” This writer fired not one but three questions, directed at Anil, Suniel Shetty and director Vivek Agnihotri each.

Later, Anil posed another question to the media: How helpful is it to have press conferences? Can the media gauge the potential of a film in those 30 minutes? Again, this writer quickly retorted by stating that the press meet and Q & A sessions do enlighten the journo about a film, but he/she forms a judgment only after he/she has watched the film in entirety.

The talk at the press conference steered to some journos doubling up as publicists for some stars and newcomers. Doesn’t it bring ill-repute to the tribe? Another fellow journalist snapped instantly with utter disgust, “Yes, there are a couple of journos who are famous for their PR stuff. But it takes all sorts to make this world.”

Meanwhile, debutante director Vivek Agnihotri spoke of Anil and Suniel’s dedication. “Anil cut his hair while Suniel grew his hair for CHOCOLATE. And they have decided to retain the look till CHOCOLATE releases on September 16. That’s dedication,” he smiled.

Present at the press meet were Anil Kapoor, Suiniel Shetty, Tanushree Dutta and Sushma Reddy, besides producer Ragini and director Vivek Agnihotri.
