A leading collector of ‘Wizard of Oz’ books and memorabilia is planning a Bollywood production of ‘Oz’. Willard Carroll, who recently completed principal photography of his Salman Khan-Ali Larter film MARIGOLD, is writing a screen adaptation of the ‘Oz’ books set in India and specifically intended for an all-star Indian cast.
First published in 1900, L. Frank Baum’s ‘The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz’ is generally regarded as America’s first indigenous fairytale. The 40 different ‘Oz’ books, MGM’s 1939 film starring Judy Garland and scores of other productions, have made ‘Oz’ a cultural icon in the U.S.
