Biographical literature on Mangal Pandey
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 12, 2005 - 03:27 IST
Till a couple of years back nobody knew who Mangal Pandey was. And now when Ketan Kehta has come up with a film on the first Indian freedom-fighter who started the war against British, many others have also joined the bandwagon of knowing Mangal Pandey.
Penguin publishers have recently come out with a book titled "Mangal Pandey: Brave Martyr Or Accidental Hero?". The biographical literature is written by Rudrangshu Mukherjee. Some time back Penguin published copies of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic Parineeta after Vidhu Vinod Chopra interpreted the novel into a successful film.
Another publishing house Rupa And Company are releasing a book in mid-August titled "Mangal Pandey: True Story of an Indian Revolutionary" written by Amaresh Misra.
But the fact lies that the publishers are trying to cash in on all the hype that Mangal Pandey is gaining thanks to the mega-release of the Aamir Khan film today.
