As Peddi gears up for its World Television Premiere on Sony MAX on October 24 at 8 PM, Ram Charan has opened up about the physical demands and personal challenges he faced while filming the sports-action drama. The actor revealed that he spent nearly 50 days shooting in traditional wrestler’s attire, an experience that pushed him out of his comfort zone.
The film’s sports sequences required considerable physical effort, with Ram Charan sustaining injuries during the shoot. The team also worked with real wrestlers and a national-level runner to bring authenticity to the sporting scenes.
Reflecting on the challenges he encountered while filming, Ram Charan shared, “I have hurt my eye, legs and many other parts but we expected all this to happen. When we shot for a sport, we always worked with real players. We shot with real kusti players, and for the running scenes we worked with a national-level runner. I enjoy doing physically tough roles so I was prepared for it.”
Apart from the physical demands, wearing the wrestling attire for an extended period was another challenge for the actor. Ram Charan spoke about his discomfort with being in the outfit in front of a large number of people throughout the shoot. The experience involved performing various activities and sequences while dressed in the traditional attire.
Speaking about stepping outside his comfort zone, the actor candidly shared, “I am quite a shy person. I wouldn’t really call myself an introvert, but wearing the wrestling attire and working in it for 50 days was quite challenging for me. I was not used to it and here I had to do all of this in front of so many people for 50 days. Whether it was riding a bicycle, working in the fields, training in the akhada, or performing scenes with my co-star, I had to do it all in that attire. It was quite uncomfortable for me.”
Headlined by Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, Peddi combines sports, action and drama against the backdrop of a remote village in Andhra Pradesh in 1990. The story follows Peddi, a gifted sportsperson whose passion for the game earns him recognition in his village. However, when his community and its way of life face a threat, the game takes on a deeper meaning, becoming a fight for the people and their dignity.
The film brings together cricket and wrestling while exploring themes of pride, identity and community. As audiences prepare to watch the film on television, Ram Charan’s account offers a glimpse into the physical preparation and personal challenges involved in bringing his character to life.
