Pretty Uday
And last but so definitely not the least in Uday Chopra. Papa Yash gives sonny boy a film (also the DVD of the original) to star in and he blows your mind away (literally) with his undiscovered acting talent. Uday Chopra does a Julia Roberts in the Indian version of My Best Friend’s Wedding.
The film Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002) changed everybody’s gender from the original. Uday, in only his second film took great strides as an actor – not ahead but way behind. Switching from Hollywood to Bollywood can be easy but one can not really digest the fact that Julia Roberts has suddenly turned into Uday Chopra.
We just thank the producers of the original that they did not have RuPaul in the film otherwise Bobby Darling would have had a new role.
Also, Technically Jimmy Shergill did a Cameron Diaz.
National Award winning actor Dimple Kapadia made a comeback of sorts in Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chata Hai (2001). Her performance was appreciated in the film and in her following release – Leela as well. So she signs up for Hum Kaun Hai? (2004), a film inspired from the Nicole Kidman starrer The Others (2001). The film had Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan in a special appearance but sank without a trace.
Not long after (1 year to be precise) Manisha Koirala comes up with Anjaane – The Unknown. Again a lift of the same film! Manisha Koirala’s career was (and still is) in the slump for the past few years and nothing really solid came her way. So she decides to do a Nicole Kidman. One really fails to understand what Manisha was thinking while signing up for the film especially since it had low production values and even low-graded special effects. Probably a major chunk of the budget might have been the DVD of the original film. No wonder she refused to promote the film.
Trivia: That little girl in Dimple’s arms is Hansika Motwani who will make her debut as the leading lady in Mithun Chakravarty’s son Mimoh’s debut film He – The Only One.
The world is full of impersonators – Elvis Presley, Amitabh Bachchan, Marilyn Monroe – all have quite a few. But what if an Indian actor suddenly decides to ape a Hollywood personality? Can he pull it off? Who should you blame? Do you blame the actor for taking up such a role? Do you blame the director for making such a film? Or do you blame the publicity guys for their lack of creativity? Ahem! IndiaFM brings to you a small list of celebrities who really had no clue of what they were doing.

When Diana Hayden did a JLO!
If you look at these pictures with a passing glance you might say that they belong to the same movie. Look carefully – Surprise! Surprise!
OK, so what if former Miss World had a bad debut in Khalid Mohammad’s Tehzeeb (2003)? She got an author backed role in her next release Ab…Bas (2003). The film was a complete remake of the Jennifer Lopez starrer Enough (2002). Bollywood has had its share of ‘inspirations’ but even an Indianized version should somehow seem a bit original.
But in the case of Ab… Bas there seems to be no creativity or originality anywhere. The original title was literally translated into Hindi, the publicity campaign ripped off as well (check out the picture). The only thing that was original was Diana’s acting skills which she could not ape from JLO.
Same dress clothing and same screenplay, however could not really produce the same box-office results.

Norton needs an Anti-virus from Sohail Khan
You can’t really blame Sohail Khan for trying here. His I – Proud To Be An Indian had a theme not really tackled in Indian cinema – racism in U.K. But how many of us know that the film was really inspired from American History X starring Edward Norton?
Sohail Khan despite giving a fine performance could not really pull of an original film. A young producer, a young actor and a debutant director did not have what it takes to Indianize this complex cult film. Since there was an ‘X’ in the title of the original Strangely Khan must have felt that an ‘I’ would work for his film. Even more strangely (no funnily) the ‘I’ was his name in the film.
Khan also seems to like Norton a lot! He also made Norton’s Fight Club in Hindi with the same title.
It is common knowledge that Mallika Sherawat has no inhibitions in displaying her anatomy. So when she teamed up with director Govind Menon for the umpteenth time in Kis Kiski Kismat, she decided to spur up another controversy. If you see the picture above, you should notice a bit of her undergarments. The pose tried to imitate the beautiful Marilyn Monroe but somehow the Indian sensibilities could not digest it.
Result: Furor took place over the raunchy pictures and the producers were subsequently asked to take of the pictures from the promotions. Now now, Mallika! With the amount of Monroe look-alikes already, you really didn’t think this would take you places. Incidentally Kis Kiski Kismat also had a song ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ which was song from Monroe’s film ‘Gentlemen prefer Blondes’.
