Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is developing a new slate of projects under his banner True Story Films, with the zombie survival thriller Pralay starring Ranveer Singh emerging as one of the most prominent titles currently in the lineup.

Directed by Jai Mehta, Pralay is being produced in collaboration with Ranveer Singh’s banner Maa Kasam Films. The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly outbreak has transformed large sections of the population into zombies. The narrative reportedly follows a group of survivors trying to stay alive while navigating collapsing systems, violent encounters and scarce resources.
The project is expected to combine action and horror elements while focusing on survival and human relationships in extreme circumstances. Zombie-based narratives have rarely been explored on a large scale in mainstream Hindi cinema, making Pralay an unusual addition to the current film landscape. Speaking about the film, Hansal Mehta said the team aims to attempt something different in terms of genre storytelling. “It’s a film unlike anything India has attempted before,” he said, adding that the idea is to approach the zombie format with an Indian setting and emotional core.
While details about Ranveer Singh’s character are currently under wraps, the actor’s involvement has generated interest around the project. Known for taking on varied roles across genres, Singh’s participation in a survival thriller has added to the anticipation surrounding the film.
Apart from Pralay, Mehta is also set to direct Porbandar, an action drama set in the hometown of Mahatma Gandhi. Another project in production is Dilkashi, which marks the Hindi debut of filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery and features music by A. R. Rahman. The banner is also developing projects such as Kehar Singh directed by Ajitpal Singh and the horror film Mehfooz, along with regional titles including Sardar Asardar based on Vallabhbhai Patel and the Punjabi feature Hanere de Panchi directed by Shashank Walia.
True Story Films is also exploring projects beyond feature films, including Family Business, being co-produced with Abundantia Entertainment, and Tongues of the Tree directed by Shonali Bose and starring Pratik Gandhi. Another concept currently in development is Rasooi, an AI-driven food series.
Speaking about the studio’s approach, producer Sahil Saigal said the focus remains on backing projects that stand out creatively, while Mehta emphasised that bold storytelling continues to be an important part of the company’s vision.
