After non-starters last week, this week we see the release of Dibakar Banerjee's whodunit film DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY! (DBB) featuring Sushant Singh Rajput. Though Bollywood seldom sees films in this genre, general audience anticipation and expectation has been relatively low.
Reports from across the country suggest that the film has opened on a rather slow note with occupancy rate of 20%. A major factor that has sorely dampened the film's business prospects is the Hollywood release FAST AND FURIOUS 7 (FF7) that has opened to a bumper start. In fact the opening of FF7 can easily be compared to that of any big budgeted Bollywood film featuring heavy weight names.
On the whole, DBB has a tough road ahead and will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth. On the other hand, FF7 that has received good reviews is currently riding high has the added advantage of the audience sympathy with the passing away of lead star Paul Walker.
