A big film doesn't necessarily start big at the box-office and THANK YOU seems to have proved this statement right yet again. In fact, the morning and noon shows of the film were lower than last Friday's F.A.L.T.U. at several screens, while in several circuits, the plexes opened to 25% to 35% response. Sure, Akshay Kumar is going through a rough patch and his past few films haven't opened well, but THANK YOU being the first biggie of this year, it should've ideally started on a 70% + note. However, some single screens showed better results, with some screens opening to 40% to 50% to 60% response.
The absence of a good start at the ticket window can also be attributed to two major factors - uninspiring music and uninteresting promotion. The audience feedback is extremely mixed and it would be interesting to see how it fares in the evening shows [the first IPL match takes place this evening] and also during the weekend.
