The much talked about Remo Dsouza directed dance film Street Dancer 3D released last week on Friday. Starring Varun Dhawan the film which had been making headlines in the run up to its release was expected to open on a good note. Living up to these expectations the film that received positive reviews did open strong, but on a slightly dampened note.
In this box office report we take a look at the opening weekend collections of Street Dancer 3D while comparing the same to Varun Dhawan’s previous releases. Collecting Rs. 41.23 cr on its opening weekend the business of Street Dancer 3D has managed to beat the collections of Dishoom that had collected Rs. 37.32 cr to become Varun Dhawan’s fifth highest opening weekend grosser. Besides Dishoom, the business of Street Dancer 3D has recorded better opening weekend collections that a few other Varun Dhawan starrers as well, like Sui Dhaaga that collected Rs. 36.6 cr, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania that collected Rs. 33.74 cr, Student of the Year that collected Rs. 30 cr, and Badlapur that had collected Rs. 23.5 cr.
As of now, Street Dancer 3D that released across 3700 screens in the domestic market still continues to run and remains as the audience’s first choice in theatres. However, it remains to be seen where the film, that has not really clicked with the masses, goes from here on.
NOTE: For the purpose of listing Varun Dhawan’s highest grossers we have not included the film Dilwale that had collected Rs. 65.09 cr on its opening weekend, since it did not feature Varun in a sole lead role.
