Ever since he started making movies with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Johar has seen good to excellent opening for his films. Some of these have emerged as blockbusters after a strong opening (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) while a couple of them have relied primarily on the opening (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name Is Kehna). Then there is Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which battled a clash (with Shivaay) and eventually entered the Rs. 100 Crore Club.
However, the kind of trajectory that Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is following is new even for the filmmaker who has been making movies for 25 years. Yes, it did take a double digit opening and then went on to grow well over the weekend to cross Rs. 45 crores milestone. While this set the stage for the Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer to now sustain itself, what has happened is something which is unimaginable when it comes to the box office run of a big film. Believe it or not but after a very good hold on Monday (Rs. 7.02 crores), the film has now seen an increase in collections with Rs. 7.30 crores coming in.
With this kind of trending, the film can now go anywhere. If the film manages to stay over Rs. 7 crores mark today and tomorrow as well then, the stage would be set for a bountiful second week ahead since by then the euphoria surrounding Oppenheimer and Barbie would have settled down as well. Currently standing at Rs. 60.22 crores, the film will definitely cross Rs. 73 crores by close of first week and then add some more as well.
