A couple of weeks ago we saw the release of two big-ticket Bollywood entertainers in the form of Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha. Released on the festive occasion of Rakshabandhan, the business of both films was expected to see stellar collection figures. However, contrary to expectations Raksha Bandhan starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar has emerged a shocker with stunningly low collections. After an underperforming first week, the business of the film dropped even further on its second weekend.
In this box office report, we look at the second weekend collections of Raksha Bandhan while comparing the same to previous releases of 2022. Collecting just Rs. 3.90 cr, Raksha Bandhan has emerged as the twelfth highest second weekend grosser of 2022. Shockingly, the film, which was expected to rank higher up on the list of highest second weekend grossers, finds a spot behind the Rajkummar Rao starrer Badhaai Do that had collected Rs. 4.29 cr. If that was not enough, when compared to Akshay Kumar’s previous releases, Raksha Bandhan has again performed far below expectations. In fact, the film emerges as Akshay’s lowest grossing release since his 2014 film The Shaukeens which collected Rs. 28 cr.
Going forward, Raksha Bandhan which continues to find a few takers has all but vanished from theatres. In fact, at the current pace, Raksha Bandhan which has collected Rs. 42.20 cr, could face an insurmountable task when trying to breach the Rs, 50 cr mark.
