The Mani Ratnam directorial Ponniyin Selvan-1, which was released a while back, has been doing rather well at the Tamil Nadu box office. After a slow start, the business of the film witnessed immense growth with each passing day. In the overseas markets as well PS-1 has managed to capture the audiences’ attention, fast emerging as one of the highest-grossing Tamil releases of recent times.
Now at the close of its third week running, Ponniyin Selvan-1 has managed to go past the Rs. 200 cr. mark at the Tamil Nadu box office. In fact, the film has managed to draw in a massive Rs. 209.01 cr. within this territory alone. Similarly, at the worldwide box office, PS-1 has been recording rather high collections. Given the wide release in certain overseas markets, Ponniyin Selvan-1 has now managed to blow past the Rs. 460 cr. mark. Emerging as one of the highest non-Rajinikanth starrers to break into the Top 5 Highest Tamil Grossers, PS-1 has managed to rake in a staggering Rs. 464.09 cr. at the worldwide box office.
Currently, Ponniyin Selvan-1 continues to hold strong, and with no new releases to compete with the film, it is highly likely that the business of PS-1 will continue to grow. As per trade predictions, Ponniyin Selvan-1 will certainly see a rise in collections in both the domestic and overseas markets over its fourth weekend. In fact, optimistic views state that the film could see its collections draw nearer to the Rs. 220 cr. mark at the Tamil Nadu box office, while at the worldwide box office, the overall business of Ponniyin Selvan-1 could cross the Rs. 500 cr. mark.
