Despite major competition in the form of Dabangg 3 and audiences also waiting for another biggie Good Newwz, there were footfalls for holdover releases Mardaani 2 and Pati Patni aur Woh as well.
Mardaani 2 continued its decent run on Sunday as well with Rs. 2.55 crores coming in. The film is running at select count of screens and at various centers the occupancy was quite impressive. The Rani Mukerji starrer has done well amongst its target audience, which is primarily multiplexes, and this is where it is collecting the most as well. The film currently stands at Rs. 33.70 crores and would be hoping to collect an average of Rs. 1 crore every day right through the week.
Ditto for Pati Patni aur Woh which brought in Rs. 2 crores* more on Sunday. With this, the Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday starrer has gone past the Rs. 80 crores milestone. Personally for Kartik Aaryan, though he must be happy about the film turning out to be a major hit, he would also be disheartened by the fact that it won't reach the Rs. 100 Crore Club. The same had happened earlier this year as well when Luka Chuppi fell just a little short at Rs. 95 crores due to too much competition and now the story has repeated with this one too.
Nonetheless, both films have done well with Mardaani 2 being an average/above average film and Pati Patni aur Woh emerging as a hit. Come Christmas and there would be a mid-week jump again for both films on Wednesday.
