Now this is one feat that perhaps even Shahid Kapoor wouldn't have imagined coming. His Kabir Singh didn't just take an excellent opening at the Box Office, it even followed through quite well on Saturday as well as Sunday. Result? The film has already collected huge moolah over the weekend, so much so that it is now officially the highest grossing solo lead film* for the actor and that too in just 3 days.
Let's take a look at the lifetime collections of Top-10 Shahid Kapoor starrers:
Movie name - Box office collections
Kabir Singh – Rs. 70.83 crores (3 days and running)
R... Rajkumar – Rs. 66 crores
Haider – Rs. 60 crores
Shaandaar – Rs. 43 crores
Kaminey – Rs. 41.42 crores
Batti Gul Meter Chalu – Rs. 37.73 crores
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero – Rs. 36.53 crores
Badmaash Company – Rs. 35 crores
Vivah – Rs. 31.56 crores
Mausam – Rs. 29.75 crores
Even though Shahid Kapoor has been around for 16 years (he made his debut as a leading man with Ishq Vishk back in 2003), somehow big ticket success hasn't been quite there. There are only two of his films that managed to go past the Rs. 60 crores mark and majority of the remaining ones were in Rs. 25-40 crores range.
In fact many of the films featuring in this list actually turned out to be flops or disasters, case in point being Shaandaar, Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Mausam. On the other hand his successes like Jab We Met, 36 China Town, Chup Chup Ke and Ishq Vishk do not feature in the list as these films released quite some time back and hence their lifetime numbers are low.
Nonetheless, the good news is that it was just a matter of time before Shahid Kapoor indeed struck huge hand at the BO and now that it has happened with Kabir Singh, one just hopes that the trend continues with his next set of films as well.
*Padmaavat [Ranveer Singh], Udta Punjab [Diljit Dosanjh] and Rangoon [Saif Ali Khan] haven't been included in the list since these films featured two leading men.
