The Mohit Suri-directed film Ek Villain Returns was released last week on Friday. Starring Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, Disha Patani, and Tara Sutaria the film opened on a moderate note with Rs. 7.05 cr coming in. Following this the sequel to the 2014 release Ek Villain saw a slight increase in collections on its second day with another Rs. 7.47 cr more coming in. Now on its third day running Ek Villain Returns has managed to draw in a further Rs. 9.02 cr.

Collecting Rs. 23.54 cr Ek Villain Returns has emerged as the tenth highest opening weekend grosser of 2022. Preceding the Mohit Suri directorial on the list of highest opening weekend grossers are previous releases like KGF – Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 193.99 cr, RRR, which collected Rs. 75.57 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 55.96 cr, Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 39.40 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 39.12 cr, JugJugg Jeeyo which collected Rs. 36.93 cr, Bachchhan Paandey which collected Rs. 36.17 cr, Shamshera which collected Rs. 31.75 cr, and The Kashmir Files which had collected Rs. 27.15 cr.
However, when compared to non-dubbed Hindi releases, Ek Villain Returns ranks as the eighth highest opening weekend grosser surpassing other releases like Heropanti 2 which collected Rs. 16 cr, Radhe Shyam which collected Rs. 13.94 cr, and Runway 34 which had collected Rs. 13 cr.
Currently, Ek Villain Returns continues to run in theatres and is expected to see further growth in business. Though the collections of the film are likely to see a dip on its first Monday, trade predictions remain positive indicating a steady flow of business over its first week.
