It is turning out to be a wonderful season for films at the box office all over again. Drishyam 2 is turning out to be one such film which is reminding one of the glory days that Bollywood used to enjoy during the pre-pandemic. In fact, the kind of numbers that the Ajay Devgn starrer is showing are the kinds that were actually enjoyed by the event films or holiday releases whereas this one is a regular big star cast film that's more dependent on audiences patronizing it because they are keen to watch it, rather than thrust upon themselves due to promotion and marketing.
That's what explains the kind of phenomenal jump that Drishyam 2 has taken despite it opening quite well at Rs. 15.38 crores. On Saturday, it was an awesome wave that caught up with the audiences and as a result Rs. 21.59 crores came in. This is truly fantastic because even if the film had registered these numbers on Sunday, it would have been superb, and here that's happening on Saturday, which means Sunday would get even better with the word of mouth continuing to be out and out positive. As a result, the film currently stands at Rs. 36.97 crores.
On the other hand, Uunchai too is managing to fetch footfall in its own little way. On Saturday, the film jumped to Rs. 2.42 crores, which is nice since Friday had stood at Rs. 1.31 crores. For it to survive the Drishyam 2 onslaught and promise to keep getting audiences to some degree at least not just over the weekend but also on the weekdays to follow, it needed to keep improving the strike rate on a day-by-day basis. The job is not yet done as now Sunday too needs to jump further, which by the look of things should happen. The film has collected Rs. 20.75 crores so far.
