Devara (Hindi) has done better than expected in its first week as close to Rs. 50 crores came in. The film was released without much fanfare, and though one would have expected an event arrival for the fantasy biggie, it came like a regular big budget affair. Since this is an absolutely open season currently with nothing major arriving from Bollywood either, the film could well have been pitched in a much higher manner, something that didn’t really turn out to be the case.
Hence, one had minimal expectations from the box office response of the film, especially in the Hindi version. However, if one compares the original Telugu and the dubbed Hindi version then even though former has seen much heavier moolah coming in, especially in the opening weekend, it’s the latter which has trended better. This is just like Pushpa which opened big in Telugu but then it was the Hindi version which trended better, hence resulting in almost equal lifetime score in both the versions.
Though in case of Devara, the Telugu version will still be bigger in the final haul, the Hindi version has indeed done well enough to reach Rs. 48.27 crores already. After seeing a good rise in collections on Wednesday, Gandhi Jayanti, the film did see an expected drop on Thursday to score Rs. 2.40 crores. However, that has been good enough to take the film as close to the Rs. 50 crores mark as possible. This is an open week ahead which means a score of Rs. 17-20 crores more would be added to its total and then some more will come in till Diwali biggies arrive.
