Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero has garnered Rs. 20. 14 crores on Day 1. Despite intense promotions and a huge star cast, the Aanand L. Rai directorial did not open as expected. The first day collections stand at mere Rs 20.14 cr which is less than most of Shah Rukh Khan’s films, except Harry Met Sejal and all time major films including Thugs Of Hindostan, Happy New Year, Sanju, Sultan, Baahubali 2, Chennai Express, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Ek Tha Tiger and so on. Zero is placed at the 34th rank of all time opening day grossers, just after this year’s release 2.0. This is not at all an enviable position and it would be crucial for the film to pick up after Day 1.
Currently, the movie is facing no competition at the box office but soon, Ranveer Singh’s much hyped commercial vehicle Simmba will release on December 28. This would mean that Zero would have to stay strong in its first week.
While Thugs Of Hindostan still ranks at number one with Rs. 52.25 crores, Zero failed to beat even Dabangg 2 which brought in Rs. 21.10 cr, Dilwale which collected Rs. 21.00 cr, Singh Is Bliing which garnered Rs. 20.67 cr, Raees which was at Rs. 20.42 cr and finally 2.0 at Rs. 20.25 cr.
