On its sixth day at the box Office, Tubelight finally crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark. This has been one of the slowest march towards the Rs. 100 crore mark for Salman Khan since traditionally the superstar has been achieving this feat in its opening weekend itself. Here, it longer than expected despite the fact that there was an Eid holiday as well in the middle of the week.
The film brought in Rs. 6.50 crore more on Wednesday and with this the collections stand at Rs. 102.36 crore currently. Unless there is a huge drop today (which is unlikely), the film should now at least have the biggest Week One of 2017 for Bollywood releases by going past the Rs. 109.01 crore collections of Raees.
The collections have thankfully not crashed per se, something that has been seen in case of a couple of high profile films earlier this year that just couldn’t sustain at all after receiving scathing reviews from critics and a complete cold shoulder from the audiences. Of course a lot also has to do with the star-power of Salman Khan due to which the footfalls are still there, albeit low. Nonetheless, even low footfalls for a Salman film are bigger than what more than 90% of films collect during weekdays even after appreciation.
That said, the fact still remains that the film has underperformed big time and if not for the Eid holiday and an open week ahead the lifetime collection would have been comparable to that of Jai Ho [Rs. 115 crore]. Now it would do somewhat better.
