For Rangoon to register some decent collections for its lifetime sum, it had to gather good momentum over the weekend. Since that hasn’t quite happened, what with Sunday bringing in Rs. 6 crore, it is pretty much an unfortunate situation for the film that has been a passion project for Vishal Bhardwaj and his team.
One can’t deny the fact that the maker had put a lot into the film in terms of time, energy and investment. What has been spent on the film pretty much shows on the screen as well with opulent sets, outdoor locations and carefully designed props and equipments. The story chosen has been unique too which is pretty much the USP. However, audiences clearly had made up their mind to let go of the film and that has reflected in the footfalls which just refused to increase even after reasonable reviews, what with Rs. 18.07 crore coming over the weekend.
The actors would pretty much move on though. Kangana Ranaut has her Simran coming up next. Saif Ali Khan would be seen in Kaalakandi and Chef. On the other hand Shahid Kapoor has his Padmavati lined up before the close of year.
Rangoon has been an expensively mounted film and one now waits to see the distance which is covered during its lifetime run.
