When Sanjay Dutt decided to make his Bollywood comeback, there was a lot of curiosity to check out what he would pick up next. Bhoomi sounded like a good bet in fact since it was an intense dramatic subject that is up Sanjay Dutt's alley. Moreover, director Omung Kumar has done well with his hard hitting subjects [Mary Kom, Sarbjit] and hence one expected yet another soul stirring experience with Bhoomi. The promo has met with a decent response too and hence the stage was set.
However, one would have expected the film to be pitched as this event 'Sanjay Dutt comeback' release and the news could have been plastered all over. Somehow that didn't happen despite the fact that there were many months between the announcement and the arrival. The film is seeing a release like any other regular Hindi film and one just feels that Sanjay Dutt warranted a much more hyped comeback to the big screen.
Nonetheless, the film is arriving on a Friday where there is not much of a competition from past or present. It is clearly the biggest film in town if on compares it with Simran and Lucknow Central (which released last week) and Haseena Parkar and Newton (which are releasing this week). Hence, it would be the biggest earner of the day. However, that could well be on a relative scale as from absolute numbers perspective, the film is looking at a start of Rs. 3-4 crore and then rely on how the content works out for the audience.
