The euphoria that started with Dabangg is now seeing third instalment of the franchise coming up. Though there are quite a few franchises and sequels which have repeated the actors, there are very few which either have the story being taken forward or at least the characters being the same. Dabangg 3 is one such film and that’s always a good sign since for audiences it is pretty much the extension of the story that they have witnessed.
Salman Khan has seen a terrific run since the release of Dabangg and has scored more than a dozen back to back centuries ever since then. His brilliant run has been peppered by several double and triple centuries as well and though neither Dabangg or Dabangg 2 have entered the Rs. 200 Crore Club, that’s the bare minimum expectation from Dabangg 3 which has Prabhu Dheva directing Salman Khan again after Wanted.
The film’s promo saw good response from its target audience, which is gentry, and amongst core multiplex audience it has been neutral. Unlike Bharat or Tiger Zinda Hai which had huge appeal amongst the elite audiences as well, Dabangg 3 is more of a rooted affair attached to the ground. This means that while in single screens, and especially in the interiors, the film will open quite well, at rest of the centres it would be good and may convert to very good and excellent over the weekend basis word of mouth.
For now though, the film is set to take one of the best starts of the year and its opening is expected to be in the range of Rs. 28-32 crores. If the reports are good, Bollywood will well gain a film which enters the Rs. 100 Crore Club in the opening weekend itself.
