This Friday sees the release of Behen Hogi Teri. A romantic comedy, the film has an unlikely pairing in the form of Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Hassan. For Rajkummar, this is his first ever out and out commercial film ever since he started his big screen foray with LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha [2010]. On the other hand Shruti is one of the top actresses down South though in Bollywood she is looking at making big despite debuting way back in 2009 [Luck]. Yes, she has a 100 Crore Club entry in the form of Gabbar Is Back but then it was an out and out Akshay Kumar show.
The good thing about Behen Hogi Teri is that the promo is reasonably funny and appears to be in the zone of Pyaar Ka Punchnama. That film (the Part One) had started slow and then went on to grow further from word of mouth. Now that Behen Hogi Teri is releasing, it too is expected to follow the same trajectory if the eventual content turns out to be truly funny.
In the recent times, the biggest opening for a Rajkummar Rao film has been gained by Dolly Ki Doli (that has Sonam Kapoor leading the show and also featured Pulkit Samrat). The Arbaaz Khan production had taken an opening day of Rs. 2.50 crore. Now Behen Hogi Teri won't mind if the opening day is in the range of 1 to 2 crore.
That sort of opening would be fair platform for the film to grow since the costs have been minimal, hence making it a safe affair. Three weeks back when Hindi Medium arrived, its opening day was Rs. 2.81 crore and today on the power of content it is set to go past the Rs. 60 crore mark. The makers of Behen Hogi Teri could well be celebrating if the lifetime of their film manages to do a quarter of that business eventually!
